A. A candidate, who have studied Urdu language either at higher secondary level or at under-graduate level, is eligible for  Diploma in Urdu Journalism through Distance mode.

• Candidate should have secure at-least 45 percent of marks at graduation level.

There are number of factors who convenes this Directorate to offer this program, such as:

• AS per official statistics of Department of Information, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, there are publishing 135 daily, weekly, fortnightly Urdu newspapers from the Valley of Kashmir
• Jammu and Kashmir is the first state in the Indian Union with Urdu as her official language
• Urdu language is the source of rich cultural milieu of this Sub-Continent in general and Jammu and Kashmir in particular
• Urdu is the only language understood across all the geographical regions and ethnic groups of Jammu and Kashmir; hence, it is called as lingua-franqa
• Urdu is being taught in all the schools of Jammu and Kashmir especially in Valley
• Urdu proficient human resource is required in various departments of state like Police, Revenue, Education, Culture, Information etc.
• Over the years need was felt to offer such a program, which can enhance the professional development of working Urdu journalist in Jammu and Kashmir.

• There are 8 course like Tarseel Aur Awami Tarseel, Sahafat: Funn Aur Technique, Urdu Sahafat Ki Tareekh, Television Nashriyaat, Radio Nashriyaat, Tarjuma Nigari, Media Zabita Akhlaq and a Project on the topic to be assigned by the concerned teacher.

• Yes, this is hundred percent market lined and job oriented program as there is huge market for professional Urdu journalists in Kashmir.

Following are the fundamental objectives to offer Urdu Journalism at Post Graduate level through Distance Mode:

• To produce human resource for various newspaper of Urdu publishing from Jammu and Kashmir

• To make the enrolled students employable amidst unemployment crisis.
• To enable the learners for textual appreciation

• This Centre has a huge infrastructural base stretching on thousands of square feets at marvelous Chinar Garden popularly known as Naseem Bagh besides state-of-the-art concrete infrastructure at sub-regional offices like Jammu, South Campus (Anantnag), North Campus (Baramulla)

• Yes, Centre for Distance and Online Education houses a good library equipped with more than 80, 000 books on all subjects offered by this Centre. It has a beautiful collection of Urdu books covering all the major aspects of courses of  Diploma in Urdu Journalism.

• There are two efficient and committed teachers (Assistant Professors) available in the Centre on permanent basis besides other 04 resource persons whose services are being availed as and when need arises.

• It is obligatory on part of this Centre to provide Self Learning Material (SLM) to its learners. This SLM is prepared by the teachers of this Centre besides other abled scholars of the subject working in different academic institutions within and outside the Jammu and Kashmir.

• Fee is four thousand, two hundred and fifty (4250) for this  Diploma in Urdu Journalism.

• The duration of  Diploma in Urdu Journalism is one academic year comprising of two semesters.

• The Centre for Distance and Online Education, University of Kashmir is not providing any scholarships to the enrolled students, however we recommend the cases to concerned governmental departments for the same.
